  4. This archive contains the second wide beta release of the 32-bit version of
  5. Pegasus Mail for Windows.
  6.  
  7. **** IMPORTANT NOTE!! ****
  8. This archive is not complete as it stands - in order to run WinPMail for
  9. Win32, you will need the 16-bit release of WinPMail v2.31 as well, since
  10. the two versions share most files.
  11.  
  12. To install WinPMail for Win32, simply copy the contents of this archive
  13. into the directory where you installed WinPMail v2.31. Create a Program
  14. Manager icon that runs the program WINPM-32.EXE. WinPMail for Win32 will
  15. pick up all your settings and preferences for the 16-bit version of
  16. WinPMail - the two versions are designed to co-exist easily.

  18. There are a number of important notes about this release:
  19.  
  20. * This release has no support for Novell NetWare. The Novell API libraries
  21.   only appear to run with the Novell Universal Client/32, which is still a
  22.   problematic product. The Novell API libraries do not seem to run with the
  23.   Microsoft Windows 95 requester, which is the one that the vast majority
  24.   of people seem to be using. The full release will have NetWare support,
  25.   but it appears that it will only be able to use the Novell Requester.

  27. * This release looks for WSOCK32.DLL instead of WINSOCK.DLL. WSOCK32.DLL is
  28.   the name Microsoft use for their 32-bit WINSOCK library, but it is unclear
  29.   at this stage whether other vendors will use the same name. If you need to
  30.   use a Windows Sockets implementation that uses a name other than WSOCK32.DLL,
  31.   you will need to specify it on the WinPMail commandline using the -W <path>
  32.   switch to specify the DLL you want WinPMail to load. The 32-bit version of
  33.   WinPMail cannot use a 16-bit WINSOCK.DLL.

  35. * This version is identical in appearance, user-interface and function set
  36.   to the 2.31 16-bit release. It should be regarded as a starting point for
  37.   further development - as the Windows 95 user interface stabilises
  38.   (particularly in the Windows NT environment), we will be working on a
  39.   version of WinPMail for Win32 that takes advantage of features of the
  40.   Win95 interface.

  42. * WinPMail for Win32 cannot load or run 16-bit WinPMail extensions.

  44. * WinPMail for Win32 is targeted for Windows 95 or Windows NT v3.50; it
  45.   may or may not work under Windows 3.1 with Win32 extensions.
